Leather By Jean began as a hobby of Jean Phillips in the 1950s. As time progressed, interest in her craft and products increased and the hobby blossomed into a modest business. At this time, Jean was showing horses, so belts and billfolds with various equine designs and figures were the items requested from her customers. Once Jean started showing dogs, the requests for designs and products greatly increased. She began setting up booths at various dog shows and trials in the surrounding areas selling products ranging from the belts/billfolds, to dog collars, dog toys, dumbbells, as well as hand crafted or tooled items such as leashes, article boxes, keychains, etc.

For the first 35 years of the companys existence, Jean solely produced every hand-made product sold. As her business and sales grew, her grandson Joey was also growing. At an early age, Jean started teaching him various pieces of her craft. As time passed, they would attend the shows and trials, until eventually a handicap prevented Jean from being able to make it to the events, so Leather By Jean became a largely home based business, driven simply by word of mouth of customers and satisfied long term patrons. For about 15 years now, Jean and Joey have been teamed up to produce only the finest quality products.

Now in business for approximately 50 years, Leather By Jean has grown into a 3-generation family business with its reputation leading the way. We have shipped to 28 US states, and our products have been used in countries such as: England, China, Japan and Australia. We feel that now is the perfect time to branch out and make our products available to everyone via the Internet.
